The origin of the ceremony :
About in 1750, there was great man, Kek Adung, asked permission to the fairy of Bukit Penyabung (Penyabung hill) to built a house in Jerieng territory. The watchman of Bukit Peyabung gave its permission with condition that every month of Muharam (First month in Islam Calender) should brought the offers to the hill. Short story, Kek Adung brought the offers to the Bukit Penyabung and celebrated it in Pelangas centre. The ritual was held every year untill Kek Adung died and its continued by Kek Weng to about the 1900’s, then the successor by Kek Fit to about the 1920’s and continued by Kek Imam to about 1945. Then its replaced by Kek Pot about 1950’s. Then its continued ti kek Deramen in 1966’s and 1998 the Tribe chief was handled by Kek Gebel. After Kek Gebel died in 1998 then the customs ceremony of the tribe was stopped which have been held since hundred years.
Afterwards when the Institutions of Malay customary was inaugurated in October 24, 2004, by the Customs Leader of Negeri Serumpun Sebalai, Datuk H. Romawi Latif, together with the chairman Rdo. sandi Buman then the ritual is back to held with diffrent way and faith. If the customs ritual in previous periods was held on the top of hill by bringing the offers, in present the celebration is held in Customs Hall, however the ritual is accompanied by slaughter of cattle. The ritual is meant to celebrate of society fortune upon abundance of good luck and sustenance from God The Creator. The Institutions of Malay customary collaborate with Pelangas Village government to held the ceremony to give the customs tittle “Radindo (Rdo)” to the figure who has great contribution. The customs ceremony of Jerieng is held in November for every year.
